Standing Up Against Stigma > Colleen’s Story
Dive into wellness, your way.
Movement in water is my medicine.
As the pandemic was winding down, I noticed my mood was still low and anxiety frequently would appear.
Then a friend invited me to swim, and I began to notice calm and joy returning to my life.
Swimming can elevate mood, reduce stress, lessen anxiety, and it is my favorite total body workout. Cool water is even better! The colder water can trigger the release of endorphins and dopamine.
Swimming is kind to you no matter your age, ability, handicaps, or skill level. You do not need to be a serious lap swimmer to gain benefits.
Movement in water is my medicine. I do not go it alone because my family, friends, church, community, and healthcare providers all contribute to the wellness of my mind, body, and spirit.
I just add water because Mental Health Matters.
What is your movement medicine?
