Sans Souci

Established in 1979, Sans Souci, meaning "without worry" in French, is dedicated to supporting Bartholomew County community members. Programs are designed to promote self-sufficiency, allowing individuals to live life without worry.

To generate financial support, Sans Souci operates a thrift store, with proceeds and recycling efforts funding the majority of operations and programs. Three specific community programs offered are No-Cost, Low-Cost, and Employee Development.

The No-Cost program provides essential items like clothing, shoes, and winter coats

free of charge. The Low-Cost program is our commitment to keeping necessary goods in our store at affordable prices, which helps stretch a household’s income.

Sans Souci’s most impactful program is the Employee Development program, where they hire individuals with employment barriers who have been prohibited from obtaining or retaining employment elsewhere. Through individualized support, Sans Souci helps employees overcome obstacles, develop life skills, and achieve lifelong self-sufficiency. Once stability is reached, employees are encouraged to apply for the Sans Souci Build You (SSBU) program—a year-long training initiative where employees learn about different career paths and participate in six-week training in various areas. The program concludes with a six-week externship with a partner employer, aligning with the participant's career interests.

Sans Souci's programs aim to alleviate mental stress in our community by providing necessities at minimal or no cost removing barriers from our employees and guiding them towards lifelong self-sufficiency.
